Crossing into Mexico
As of January 31, 2008, to cross both into and out of Mexico by car or by foot, you will need a passport. Alternatively, you can provide a government-issued photo id (like a driver's license) plus proof of U.S. citizenship (like a birth certificate).

Basic Directions
El Paso is located in westernmost Texas, where the state meets Mexico and New Mexico. I-10 runs southeast through El Paso on a long, lonely stretch to San Antonio some 560 miles to the east. Las Cruces (NM) is a much shorter trip at only about 30 miles northwest. Ciudad Juarez is across the Rio Grande and the Mexican border to the south.
