Las Cruces is home to many attractions, including numerous art galleries, museums, theaters and annual festivals. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of year-round outdoor activities, such as hiking, golfing or tennis, in some of New Mexico's most diverse landscapes. To the east, the majestic spires of the Organ Mountains rise from the floor of the Chihuahuan Desert with rolling hills and spindly plants. To the west, the Rio Grande cuts a wide green path of tall trees and fertile fields through the Mesilla Valley. Overhead is an endless expanse of stunning blue sky where the sun shines almost everyday.

Recreation
With over 350 days of sunshine a year, Las Cruces provides visitors with an opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of indoor and outdoor activities year-round. Golf some of southern New Mexico's finest courses or learn about the life in the desert with a trip to the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park. Spend the day shopping at the Mesilla Valley Mall, Laguna Seca Plaza or the Mesilla Plaza.
Hiking and Camping in Las Cruces- Overlooking Las Cruces to the east are the Organ Mountains, a haven for hikers and adventure seekers alike. The Organs offer two main recreational areas, Aguirre Springs and Dripping Springs/La Cueva.
Day Trips - To the west of Las Cruces is the Gila National Forest, City of Rocks State Park and Rockhound State Park. North of Las Cruces, visitors can spend a day on the water at both the Caballo Lake and Elephant Butte Lake State Parks. Both parks boast a full array of water sports, fishing, hiking and camping. South of Las Cruces check out El Paso, TX, Ciudad Juarez, Mexico and the Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino. Make sure not to forget US Highway 70 traveling east from Las Cruces and spend the day visiting the mountain town of Ruidoso, NM and the gypsum dunes of White Sands National Monument.
Fabulous Festivals
17th Annual Frontier Day (April) - Take a trip back in time with a visit to Fort Selden State Monument as they honor the civilians and soldiers who lived at the fort and protected the residents of the Mesilla Valley after the Civil War. Among the groups honored are the Buffalo Soldiers who, were some of the first soldiers assigned to the Fort. Fort Selden State Monument.
Annual 4th of July Electric Light Parade, Celebration and Fireworks (July) - Commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, Las Cruces celebrates with a parade of floats decorated with electric lights. Experience live entertainment throughout the day plus a spectacular fireworks display at night. All events are free and open to the public.
New Mexico Wine Harvest Festival (September)- Celebrate New Mexico's wine harvest with grape stomping, wine tasting, live entertainment. Festival features arts and crafts vendors, children's activities, hourly wine seminars and a great relaxed atmosphere.
Diez y Seis de Septiembre Fiesta (September)- Mexican Independence Day! Join the village of Mesilla as they commemorate Mexico's independence. Be sure to catch folklorico dances, mariachi music, authentic Mexican cuisine and have a really good time.
35th Annual Renaissance Craftfaire (November) - Spend a weekend with Kings and Queens at the 35th Annual Renaissance Craftfaire. Local, state and regional artisans gather to participate in a juried art show and exhibition. Only the highest quality arts & crafts are for sale accompanied by live theater, dancing, music and food, all presented with a Renaissance theme. Young Park.
