Overview
Downtown El Paso is the cultural and historical heart of the Sun City, home to
landmarks, museums, and entertainment venues. The Westside boasts upscale
shopping, dining, and scenic views of the mountains, while the Eastside is a rapidly
growing residential and commercial hub with popular parks and family-friendly
amenities. Central El Paso offers a blend of historic neighborhoods and local
eateries, while the Northeast features access to outdoor recreation and a close-knit
community feel. Mission Valley is a historic gem, tracing its roots back to the earliest
days of El Paso. It’s home to the famed El Paso Mission Trail, where visitors can
explore the centuries-old Ysleta, Socorro, and San Elizario missions, each offering a
glimpse into the city’s Spanish colonial past.
City Districts
Central El Paso
Central El Paso is rich in history and proud of its heritage. Known for its historic
landmarks, this area blends a vibrant urban atmosphere with a deep cultural legacy.
The Sunset Heights District is known for its grand mansions from the 1890s, once
home to famed revolutionary Pancho Villa, adding another layer to the area’s
historical significance.
East El Paso
As El Paso's largest and fastest-growing district, East El Paso is a lively area that
offers a blend of family attractions, shopping, and restaurants. For history
enthusiasts, this area is the best gateway to the Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic
Site, a treasured destination known for its ancient rock art and striking natural
landscapes.
Mission Valley El Paso
Mission Valley is the home to the historic Ysleta, Socorro, and San Elizario missions,
which date back to the 17th and 18th centuries and still host services today. Along
the El Paso Mission Trail, visitors can explore these centuries-old churches and visit
the Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo, the oldest continuously inhabited community in Texas,
offering a rich glimpse into the city’s early beginnings.
Northwest El Paso / West Side and Kern Place
Affluent and rapidly expanding, Northwest El Paso is home to The University of Texas
at El Paso (UTEP). The Kern Place entertainment district, located in El Paso's first
suburb, is a popular spot for college students and young professionals, offering a
vibrant nightlife scene. This area is a growing hub for education, healthcare, and

Northeast El Paso
Northeast El Paso is home to the historic Fort Bliss Military Base, a significant

Other Things to Know
If you're coming in by plane, the El Paso International Airport may well suit. By car, I-10 is the most common route. Within the city, cars are probably the best choice for transportation, but there is the Sun Metro bus system, and a lot of the city is well-suited for walking when it isn't too hot.
